Silly Goose and Stained Glass... the perfect duo!

I don't know where these ideas come from. I just know that usually there's something that I admire or that my kids love that inspire me. I've always loved the beauty and craftsmanship of stained glass. And I've recently discovered an admiration for silly goose everything - inspired mostly by playing "Untitled Goose Game" with my daughter... an adorable game where we get to be mischievous little geese. As random as it seems to put these things together - this has got to be my favorite yet.
Going into it, I didn't know this was going to love it so much. The combination of texture + contrast, the juxtaposition of silly + traditional... As soon as I finished this project, I wanted to immediately do it again. Try new colors. Try new glass design. Try a different pattern of color or texture.
What makes this one special is the layers of creativity within one piece. I'd chosen this project as the first of a theme of "Pieced Together"... not realizing just how much more varied and pieced the outcome would be than I expected.
Kids making this art get all sorts of practice in one project - drawing with a pencil, using a slow and steady hand with puff paint - and then filling in the "glass" sections with watercolor paint - which behaves so lovely with the borders of puff paint that it makes little artist brushstrokes that much more forgiving.
Using tools like straightedges or bowls can help create interesting geometric shapes for the stained glass look.
Using a slow and steady pace helps keep puff paint lines clean. Younger children and those still building hand strength may require assistance with this step if they fatigue.
The surprising texture from using plastic kitchen wrap provides visual interest and intrigue to the piece.
